Hire Me

Hi there. Thank you for dropping by! Below are the general areas I specialise in. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me here.

Writing / Guest Blogging

I am willing to write on most topics related to Japan, but have particular strength in writing about travel in Japan, Japanese culture and also on learning the Japanese language. I have lived in Japan for a total of 2 years, travelled around many different places, including hitch-hiking and taking pilgrimages on lesser-known islands and have a fairly good understanding of Japan and Japanese culture as a result of it. I am able to write well-balanced articles, having learnt through studying and writing about Philosophy, and am able to construct both easy-going and humorous or deep and serious posts. I can write in both and English and Japanese.

Depending on the site, the type of article and time investment needed, I may require a fee to write a guest post, but I am also willing to write for free for cross-exposure in many cases. The best thing to do is just drop me a line and tell me what you’d like. Please contact me here and we can get started on working something out!

Website Design

I offer front-end design services to help you create and customise a website or blog. I have been self-studying HTML and CSS for several years now and am very familiar with the blogging system known as WordPress. I have over 10 year’s experience working in Adobe Photoshop creating and editing images, photos and all sorts of graphics to produce attractive and user-friendly websites. The current website design that you are viewing is version 6 and you can see how the website has grown and progressed over the years by viewing this post here.

If you would like me to design a website, set up or customise a WordPress blog for you, create images and graphics or just generally help you with your CSS and HTML, drop me line here and we can work out an agreement.

Japanese Translation or Interpretation

I have been studying Japanese for 7 years and visited Japan on 4 separate occasions, staying for a total of 2 years. I won the 2008 UK National Japanese Speech Contest for University Students in London (view my record of that event here) and in March 2009 I passed the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT 1) (read about that here). I am set to graduate this summer in 2009 with a joint-honours degree in Japanese and Philosophy.

I am able to read all but very technical Japanese documents and translate them and have experience in interpretation when guiding groups of Japanese students around Canterbury in the South East of England, explaining the history and culture there. I also have experience guiding foreign guests around parts of Japan helping them to travel and enjoy their stay comfortably. If you would like me to translate something for you or hire me to interpret, please contact me here. The fees for such work are decided on a case-by-case basis.
